Donating Teacher Kits at Pintong Bukawe Elementary School

Donating Teacher Kits at Pintong Bukawe Elementary School

Rotary Loves Children (in partnership with RC San Mateo)

Area of Focus: Basic Education and Literacy
Project Type: Donation, Man Power
Category: Community

When: July 3, 2022
Where: Pintong Bukawe Elementary School

Pintong Bukawe is a far flung barangay, detached from the rest of San Mateo, Rizal. To go there, one must travel through the mountain areas of Antipolo. In its heart is the Pintong Bukawe Elementary School. In partnership with Rotary, we held a donation drive adjacent to their donation of school supplies for kids.

The project was dubbed "Rotary Loves Children."

What did RAC San Mateo do?

We pooled our funds and donated a total of 15 teacher kits to Pintong Bukawe Elementary School. Our total spending amounted to Php 2,094, with each kit amounting to Php 139.60.

Each kit consisted of the following:

  • Stenno notebook
  • Manila paper
  • 3 ballpens
  • 1 pen
  • 1 pack of chalk
  • 2 bottles of alcohol
  • 1 gauze
  • 1 tape
  • 1 long plastic envelope

Community assessment: How did you learn about the community’s needs?

Rotary Club of San Mateo organized the project Rotary Loves Children with Pintong Bukawe Elementary School, as the barangay of Pintong Bukawe is a beneficiary of the Rotary Club. Through them, Rotaract Club of San Mateo, which they chartered last year, learned of the school's situation. We then decided to complement RC San Mateo, who was going to do a gift giving the the students; we decided to gift school supplies to the teachers. Teachers are as important as the students in a teaching community. The better a teacher is equipped, the better students can learn.

Project impact: How will the project help the community after the project ends?

With face to face classes nearing, it is important to re equip teachers with the correct tools. Our teacher kit is filled with essentials that will aid teachers with their teaching. Giving such items will lessen the financial burden to the teachers and the school, and they can instead focus more on planning their next lessons.

Sustainability: How will the benefits of the project continue afterward?

Our project is mainly a gift giving program, and the materials we donated would likely be used until they run out. Hopefully, our gifts shall serve their purpose of helping the teachers.

Start with the community

Pintong Bukawe's location is very hard to reach from San Mateo, thus, making it detached. With its lack of accessibility, and the fact that it is cut off from the rest of the municipality, the public school is not always visited by officials. NGOs step in and help Pintong Bukawe Elementary School, which the school is always grateful to have.

Encourage local ownership

-

Provide training

-

Buy local

-The inclusions in our kit are easy to find and were sourced in a store from adjacent communities. This creates an economic cycle between the teachers and the suppliers of school supplies.

Find local funding

-

Measure your success

In a few months, after face to face classes, we will revisit Pintong Bukawe Elementary School with our Rotary Club of San Mateo to see if our teacher kits were helpful to the teachers we provided them to.
